It’s always scary and nerve-wracking to do something different, especially when you’re stretching out of your comfort zone! But it’s also exciting and energizing, which is why I’m so glad Donna & I decided to take a chance and write our non-shifter futuristic post-apocalyptic paranormal romance books. (With virtual reality and truckers, amen.)

So thanks, everyone who picked up a copy of Demon Bait and thanks to everyone who read it and talked to us and hugged us and tweeted about it or was just, in general, pretty damn rad. Donna & I sometimes fall down on the whole HEY, BUY OUR BOOK part of promotion, but for some reason you wacky people keep doing it anyway. I am eternally grateful. <3

And now it’s only four weeks to Hammer Down! Which is like Demon Bait except 3x as long and with 3x as much violence and 3x as much sex and 3x as many demons and the answer to why the series is called “Children of the Undying.” (I can’t tell you. It’s a spoiler. Ha!)

We’re coasting through the holiday season busily finishing up a few projects for next year. We’re working on Julio & Sera’s book now, and finishing up the third bloodhounds book as well. We’re actually working on Southern Arcana #6 at the same time, which is a new and exciting change for us. And means we’re starting to put the plot points in place for SA #7…which is our most requested couple to date. (She says, mysteriously.)

I’ll be doing a little blog clean up today and posting the final winners of the Apocalypathon contest over the weekend. Thanks everyone who participated…it was so much fun!

The Big Ol’ News & Project Update

Wheee, it’s time for another round of, “Just what’s going on around these parts, anyway?” As many of you know, we often use this blog as the “sign of life” on our otherwise fairly static website, so I like to post these updates with fairly decent regularity. (I’m also going to start linking to the latest one on the front page of our site, so you can always find out the latest news, even if you miss it.)

This summer was loooong. There was the time we almost got hit by a tornado, the time we broke our book and threw away everything we’d written and started from scratch with a new plot, the time we got plagiarized by that chick who changed one of our character’s names to Flora Logger, the time my husband rescued four kittens and I had to keep them in my office and they tweeted, and guys, I’m only to mid-July.

However, we have still managed to get a fair bit done. So here are our upcoming projects…

Children of the Undying

We’re launching this series next! The intro novella, Demon Bait, is on sale November 29th. I’ll be gathering up review copies for this one in October, so if you’re interested, keep your eyes peeled! We’ll also be having a huge party in November with a ton of other Apocalypse & Demon loving authors, including but not limited to: Ella Drake, Larissa Ione, Nathalie Gray, Alisha Rai, Eden Bradley, CC Bridges, Zoe Archer, Nico Rosso, Vivi Andrews, Mina Carter, Karen Erickson, Cate Morgan, Meljean Brook and Dani Worth. And those are just the authors giving away books!

Five weeks after Demon Bait, the first full novel in the series will go on sale. Hammer Down is the pet project of our hearts. It’s got violence, sex, love, danger, hackers, magic, demons, halfbloods, betrayal, loyalty, virtual reality, truckers and a very hard earned happily ever after. And we are super. Damn. Excited. (Also: our blog is currently Children of the Undying themed! Yay!)

Bloodhounds

New news here! We’re going to have three new Bloodhounds stories out in 2012! The first will be a short story that we’re writing as part of a special Valentine’s Day promotion. It will feature a cranky bloodhound who’s been around almost since the beginning of the Guild and a badass young airship pilot who rubs him in all the wrong–and right–ways. We’re really excited about getting the chance to write this wicked little tale.

Right after that we have Hunter’s Prey in March and Archer’s Lady in July. Hunter & Ophelia’s book will give you a bit more of a look at how things run in Iron Creek and what life is like for a new bloodhound, as well as a little more information about the Guild and what the current climate there is like.

Archer’s story will see him on his own path to redemption, with a heroine who has not been introduced. For those of you who’ve been eager for hints about how the bloodhounds were created and exactly what they are–some secrets will be revealed.

Southern Arcana

After our Bloodhounds spring & summer, we’ll be heading in to a Southern Arcana fall. Impulse is the fifth novel in the series, and it features Sera and Julio. The wait between book four & book five is going to be a full year, but good news–book six will follow a bit more quickly in May of 2013.

And since virtually everyone has guessed, I will confirm it. (LOOK AWAY, SPOILERPHOBES.) Patrick & Anna are the hero & heroine of Enigma, which will be a chance for readers to see a little more of the seedy underbelly of the Southern Arcana universe. Bounty hunters have the very best friends.

Also: Deadlock will be in print in December, and Cipher will go to print next summer. So yay!

Other Projects

We’re hoping to sneak the third And the Beast story into 2012 as well. It is the tale of the arranged marriage of Farran & Iloria, a storyline set up during Sabine. We’ve also got a few more projects we’re working on as time permits, but everything else we do will be mostly arranged around keeping the releases steady on our existing series.

The Cipher Spoilery Questions & Answers Post

As with previous books, I’m going to post here so those of you who have read Cipher can ask spoilery questions about the book, future books, the series as a whole or anything else that strikes your fancy.

To be clear, that means SPOILERS! If you don’t like them, click away!

So now we’re four books in. I will say now that readers have been introduced to the heroes & heroines of the next four books at this point, though not all of those heroes & heroines have been introduced to each other. Some have been major characters, some have only appeared once or twice. Some are fairly new, some have been around almost from the start.

Questions? Comments? Want to yell at us over THAT THING? Ask! I do not promise to answer every question clearly, but one of us will answer every question.

Meet the fake men & women in my life this fall…

It’s been a busy, hectic sort of fall as we prepare to say goodbye to Kat & Andrew (or rather, prepare to send them out into the world, where they will finally get to be happy. Yay!)

My husband often jokes that he doesn’t want to read our books because he feels like he knows everything about the characters by the time the books finally come out. And he’s not wrong…Donna & I spend insane amounts of plotting, discussing, dissecting & preparing to write these books. But you guys don’t know all about the fake men & women currently dominating our desktop computers, so I figured I’d give you a peek.

I’ll start with our 2011 folks, and maybe tomorrow I’ll hand over the first two couples of 2012. I might even make Donna play along, too!

First, of course… Kat & Andrew from Cipher.

Kat:

He stretched out on his back and grinned. “Maybe it’d be more correct to say I’m not really her type. I’m not badass enough for your roommate.”

“That’s a shame.” But easy enough to believe. The last time Sera had managed to get her hands on enough alcohol to make a shapeshifter drunk, she’d scrawled No fucking alpha bastards! across the bathroom mirror with a Sharpie. Kat had tried three different types of cleaner before giving up and repunctuating it. No, fucking alpha bastards! was a motto she could get behind, at least.

Andrew:

He needed time more than anything else, so he jumped in the shower.

A cold one, since his body didn’t seem to have gotten the memo about recovery time and how he shouldn’t have a throbbing erection right after an orgasm, even if he was relatively young and virile.

That’s what you get for dry humping an empath, dumbass, he told himself viciously as he chattered under the frigid spray. A change of clothes and a cold shower.

Next up, Marci & Gabe from the Children of the Undying novella prequel, Demon Bait, due out in November. I like this scene for both of them:

He shuddered and closed his eyes, tasting her aura as it spun around him in dizzy circles. She was smart, but he’d known that. Cunning too—again, no surprise. She’d hidden herself amongst humans, had blended in until no one suspected she wasn’t one of them. And beneath that…

Hunger. Passion. Wild curiosity and a sensuality that was pure in a way that made him wonder if a man had ever touched her outside the network. Sex in the Global was clean. Sterile, which was the point, but it left the wildest orgies a fleeting dream that might never have happened at all.

His demon half was putty in her clumsy hands. His cock was hard as steel.

Her lips brushed his ear, so quickly he could have imagined it, and then her touch vanished entirely. “Uh, no,” she whispered huskily. “That is one hundred percent about sex.”

He took a deep breath. Another. “Did you want it to be?”

“That matters?”

If he hadn’t been turned on to the point of pain, he would have laughed. “Yes, Marci. That matters.”

She crossed her arms over her chest and took a step back. “I think I’m going to get a shower and turn in.”

It would be so easy to follow her. She’d let him. He could see it in her eyes, in the flush in her skin, the trembling in her hands. No need to lean, because she’d open for him and he could show her the sort of pleasure a man with sex in his genes could bring.

Soon, he promised himself. Knowing the advantages of a slow hunt was in his genes too. She was soft, but not melting. Not yet. “Thank you for helping.”
