Read An Ebook Week: Keith Melton

Read an Ebook Week!

Welcome to day two of my totally last-minute and therefore gleefully odd celebration of Read An Ebook Week!  Today’s featured author is a man who needs no introduction, because surely he must be universally reviled by now.  He is pure evil and my arch-nemesis, but I suppose I have to acknowledge that his books are pretty badass.  So today, a truce, while I tell you about his latest release from Samhain Publishing.

Nightfall Wolf Clans, Book 1

Leah Kendrick is guilty of only one crime: loving her human mate, Tom, enough to give him the gift of The Bite. The Pack council is merciless, and the punishment swift. In an instant everything she’s ever known is ripped away, and they’re turned out into the long winter with nothing. No money, no car, and no protection from a variety of creatures who’d like nothing more than to take down a lone wolf.

Friendless and broke, they form a daring plan to take back what’s theirs and chase safety north. But the Pack has other ideas. And with time running out it’s about to call their bluff…

Warning: Contains savage werewolf combat, defiant love, graphic violence/language/sex, kangaroo trials and unrepentant criminal havoc.

I managed to set aside my generations long feud with Mr. Melton long enough to ask him the three Questions Du Jour, and I think his evil nature shines through in his answers.  (If you’re wondering at the strength of my disregard, you should check out the history of our vicious war.)

#1) Why do you write ebooks? Aren’t you worried that you’re contributing to the eventual fall of civilization at the hands of the robot overlords?

I don’t really write ebooks. I write books that show up as electron rainbows in the datastreams of time.

Or something…

Ebooks have advantages and drawbacks. I see them as just one more tool to get content in front of readers. I look around at all these bookshelves in my house, and as much as I love love love books, I would like some way to keep the Urban Book Sprawl a little more in check.

And who doesn’t want to carry around a library in their phone or eReader? I’d need a backpack or shopping cart to haul around all those physical books. And then people would stare.

As for the robot overlords? Well, the joke’s on them, because as Neil Young wrote: Rust never sleeps.

(Neither does male pattern baldness or scabies, but I won’t bring those up here. Feel free to thank me.)

#2) Some say the world will end in robots, some say in zombies. Which are you?

Is there a choice C) robot zombies? How about cyborg zombies? Those could get ugly.

Both have some serious disadvantages. I mean, as soon as a human body dies, the bacteria in the intestines go crazy and start spreading everywhere unchecked. The body bloats up with gasses from decomposition. How many bloated zombies do you see in the movies? And there’s this age old problem: The more a zombie eats of a victim, the less effective that victim’s corpse will be if it reanimates—i.e. if it loses too much muscle or ligaments it won’t be able to move.

Robots? Well, anyone who has suffered through Windows Vista understands that one can have a superfast processor and lots of shiny gadgets and still suck toggle bolts through a steel wall.

#3) Finally, the greatest question of our time: Caveman vs Astronaut. Who’s gonna win that epic battle?

Honestly, I must have missed the memo. I wasn’t aware this was the greatest question of our time, surpassing things like McDonalds vs Burger King, Pepsi/Coke, Mild versus sharp cheddar, lime gelatin versus pond scum.

I’d say Astronaut. Why? Because alphabetically, astronaut comes first. Also, how many songs are there about cavemen? While astronauts, well, there’s “Rocketman” and “Space Oddity” etc.

The prosecution rests.

  1. ooooh I love Rocket Man.

I would go with Robots, as long as they are made by Apple.

no need to enter me, I am already Keith Melton’s minion and own all his books lol

  2. Christie I says:

I have both of his books on my wishlist. Decisions….decisions…. Both sound good but I think I’d rather read Run, Wolf because I’ve been on a werewolf binge lately and it makes me happy.

  3. Keith Melton says:

I kind of like this guy. He has a certain boyish charm.

He has my vote in 2010 (especially since he promised government grants to all writers and a new holiday: National Video Game Day).

  4. Miranda says:

I prefer Blood Vice simply because the main character is male… now Keith on the other hand can be charming but you must be careful of his sharp wit – paper cuts sting!

  5. Blood Vice. Still have a bit of a hang up about furry things. Too close to home having lived in AL for like EVAH…okay it was 11 years. But it felt like an eternity! LOL!

  6. Anna Shah Hoque says:

I’m currently reading Blood Vice…loving what I’ve read so far. I would love to win a copy of Run, Wolf because it’s sounds like a great paranormal read….werewolves in action.. How much more awesome does it need to get? :)

  7. Tracey D says:

The decision is hard to make but I would choose Blood Vice. I like the idea of combining a vampire with criminal underworld.

    Thanks!

  8. Nancy Gilliland says:

I think Run, Wolf would be my choice. I’m partial to shifters.

  9. Cathy M says:

Would love to read Blood Vice, love a good vampire story and the warning on this book is a kick.

  10. Gabrielle J. says:

Like Nancy, I’m also partial to shifters, but Blood Vice sounds pretty good and I don’t think I’ve ever read a novel that combines vampires and the mafia, lethal combination if you ask me.

Just like I haven’t read anything by you Ms. Moira I haven’t read anything by Mr. Melton either and I’m always looking for new authors to read. So Blood Vice would have to be my choice.

  11. Beth C. says:

I would have to go with Run, Wolf. I just like reading about shifters more than vampires lately.

  12. Lindsey Ekland says:

I have Run Wolf and realized it must be moved up the TBR list. One reason I love ebooks is moving a book does not create a precarious leaning in the remaining books. So if I win I would like a copy of Blood Vice.

  13. Jennifer Graham says:

I would like Run, Wolf. I have Blood Vice, and its GREAT!!! So if anybody wins that one you won’t be disappointed!!!!!

  14. Heather says:

I agree – astronauts have way better songs about them than cavemen – so astronauts win! I would like to win Run, Wolf – I got Blood Vice on my ereader already and it keeps whispering to me to read it.. ;)

  15. Patsy Hagen says:

Run, Wolf would be my pick. I like vampires, but wolves have my heart.

  16. CarolynO says:

I’d love to read run, wolf. I love the shifter theme of a book and when there is a strong heroine to support the story-all the better.

  17. Marlene Breakfield says:

RUN, WOLF because I love shifters.

  18. Blood Vice would be my pick from Keith, man a Mafia Hit Man master Vampire are you kidding what “warm blooded” human would not want to read a book about “pervasive supernatural mayhem”?

Call me a rebel but I am voting for the Caveman, you know the saying on the commercial for Gieco ‘ It is so easy a Caveman can do it’ that trumps the astronaut songs for me!!!!

  19. Pamk says:

Run, Wolf sounds fantastic. I’d love to read this one.

  20. Keith Melton says:

Just stopping by to say thanks for all the interest. You are all awesome.

    Except for Alisha Rai.

All right, she’s awesome too, but just because she has characters in her books who make curry, not because she defeated me with her questions or anything.
