Top Six Contest Day Three: Weapons

Those of you who follow either of us on twitter (@donnajherren or @moirarogersbree) may already know this story, but for those of you new to the adventures of the ladies Moira Rogers, I will tell the abridged version here.
Donna, as it happens, has a pet pig. Only she didn’t buy this pig or acquire it in any normal way. It actually wandered up to her house and sort of decided to stay. This was documented on twitter:

That’s right. A random pig wandered up to her house, because that’s the sort of thing that happens sometimes when you live in the middle of nowhere. You get random pigs, and other animals even more alarming.

That’s why you need weapons! Okay, wait, disclaimers up front: please do not try to go out and do battle with fierce creatures with the knife featured to the right, because that might actually be not all that much smaller than the knife itself. (Also it does not come with a chain, but is easily mounted on one!) However, what it is good for is stealth weaponry. It’s decorative! (I was going to say stylish, but maybe that’s a limb I’d rather not get out on.)
Of course, those who live in Red Rock Pass don’t worry quite as much
about the wild pigs, since werewolves have probably got that covered. But that doesn’t mean Joe goes anywhere without his arsenal, as Dylan finds out much to his dismay in Sanctuary’s Price. (Really. Who drives around with C4 in the back of their blazer? Oh yeah, Joe.)
Since the knife might not be enough to drive off any wild animals that wander up to you, we’re also throwing in this signed copy of Last Hope. If you really are in danger, it would do more damage than an ebook if you threw it really, really hard. Just don’t throw it at anyone who’s going to sue us later, okay?
So, to get in on day three’s contest, just reply with the answer to this question: what is the weirdest animal you’ve ever wandered across?

I had this big group of spider-like things living outside my front door for the longest time. They would all group together and then jump up and down (vibrate) when someone walked by..but they never bothered anyone, so I left them alone. I finally determined that I think they are called Harvestmen. My husband was spraying for a wasp nest one day and killed them all…bye harvestmen
Weirdest would be the odd little gecko-like lizards i saw in Florida one year….not typical of geckos. skin like bark, and short tails.
Does the zoo count? LOL, just kidding. The strangest animal? Huh…I live in a city. Here are no weird animals. LOL Ok, you will probably laugh but I went for a walk with my sister last week and we saw a Nutria. It was so close and didn’t mind us staring like idiots.LOL and I know a Nutria is really not weird but the weirdest animal I saw outside of a zoo. We only have cats and dogs here and sometimes a rat on the shoulder of some punk. These are definitely weird. So I take one of the thousand punker rats here in MD. Some of them have dyed hair and really ugly tails. So weird…
Have a nice weekend you two.
A porcupine on a hike– I know it’s not that strange– but man, was it BIG and pointy. Scared the crap out me. All I could think of was how much those quills would hurt:)
I live in the country and read a couple months ago that wild pigs are a big problem right now. WTF? Who knew?
I was a teenager the first time I saw a nutria and I almost died of fright – I didn’t know it was there and I apparently scared it so it ran by me to away. *shudders* I still think they’re gross, I can’t believe people eat them.
honest to god one of my neighbors had a aligator in his pond. Not sure if he still does I’m not going to check. But he does have a chain link fence still around said pond.
We used to have a possum that would camp out on our front porch at night. The first morning I came out to grab the newspaper, the crazy thing scared me to death. It has nice sharp teeth, btw, and a really long, rat-like tail. Definitely not something you want to cuddle up with.
Well, as a kid, my parents and I had moved into a newly built home. My task was to remove all the stray under the bushes. So under one bush… was a bed of snakes! One big mama snake and a whole bunch of little ones! Of course, I picked a baby snake and showed it to my father. “Isn’t it cute?” I said. No, he didn’t think they were. My parents freaked and my mother made go into the house, which is where I wanted to be, anyway, to read!
Thanks!
I live in the city….not really a place where I can run across strange animals unless you count the ones of the human variety
The only experience I have to draw on would be when I was visiting Asia…I saw these gecko like lizards that like were everywhere!!! They were on the walls of all the homes…regardless of the fact if the home is a hut in a village or an air conditioned home in the urban areas…just seriously creeped me out! and on top of all that they made this weird “tic, tic” sounding noise every so often…Oh and another weird animal thing that happened was finding out about flying cockroaches in Asia…OMG I so don’t handle creepy crawlies at all…so let’s just say that there was a lot of screaming on my part…
Happy Reading!!!

Oh by the way, I already own Last Hope so don’t count me in for the drawing for the book unless you feel like tossing in a different book…
but either way I’m cool…I LOVE your work and I cannot wait to get my hands on the upcoming Red Rock Pass book…
The weirdest animal I’ve ever come across was probably the opossum that crawled into our (empty) trash can and gave birth to about eight pups. My son discovered them when he went to take the trash out to the can and came running in with HUGE eyes. “MOM! There’s an OPOSSUM in the can!!” She was kind enough to show me every one of her very sharp teeth, so I sent the kidlings back into the house, rolled the can to the edge of the forest that abutted our property, and laid it on its side. A few hours later, Mama and her brood were all gone.
I live in town so the most exotic creature is probably a possum. My mom raises chickens and one day a peahen landed in the yard. She stayed for a couple of years and would roost in the trees. Tried laying eggs but no peacock so no chicks.
We’ve actually had two baby bats at different times just fall from the tree in front of our house. We even kept them for a short while until they could be picked up by the wildlife folks.

Wombats!
Wombats are really strange.
I live in the city too, so I can’t really say I see many animals, other than my dogs, the cats in the neighborhood, birds, and the occasional groundhog or possum.
I do remember when I was younger that someone had captured a white raccoon and had it in a cage. It was odd looking, but very pretty.

Wandered across?? I’m such a city girl, we don’t wander across many unusual animals, unless you count the poor oppressed dogs wearing coordinated sweater/booties/hats! Although I’ll allow that some pets might need a little extra protection in cold/wet weather, some of those outfits are a clear blight to society
a mean bull . I woke up to him at my front door and he was mad. I had to call into town and wait half the day til the men in town got him rounded up.
Sloth’s. They are really weird and just like to hang on things.

Outside a zoo, the weirdest is probably river lamprey. I’ve seen them alive in a bucket, and less alive on my plate. Ignore the weirdness and they’re tasty. lol
I live in the city and only see cats and dogs around and an occasional possum. My mom raises chickens and one year a peahen flew into the yard and stayed. The roosted in the trees and ate and drank with the chickens.
My son found a two headed turtle. WIERD!
The craziest animals I have seen would probably be extremely poisonous snakes. They were in a place called reptile world. This place had at least 5 of the most poisonous snakes in the world, as well as some crazy looking toads and frogs and other large snakes. Also alligators and crocodiles. SO awesome but disgusting the way some of them loook.
I live on a farm and we have had two headed calves from time to time. The poor little things never live very long though. It is so sad.

I can’t say I’ve ever come across a strange animal, although when the opposum appeared on my porch I about peed. I do see quite a few unusual bugs (which in my opinion is worse than animals). We could have an award winning bug collection around here.

We used to have a cat with three legs, half a tail and only one ear! But he was still the boss and we all knew it! Helived to be almost twenty years old, and just went to sleep one night. But not before he taught his grandson how to be boss.

An armadillo… not cute and hate it if there’s one in the middle of the road.
The weirdest animal I guess would have to be a two headed snake we found in the woods
The dreaded chupacabra!
Strangest creature – I guess would have to be my pet bearded dragon, Leroy. Scaly & smelly and nothing like I would expect a dragon to be… and he would sleep for MONTHS. Way weird to watch him eat crickets though… and even weirder that crickets managed to escape and populate our home!
I live in the suburbs, so not a lot of exotic animals around – we have the cats, dogs, skunks, armadillos, lizards, mice/rats, rabbits and of course the Coyote- right in the middle of the back road in the middle of the night – and let me tell you – this coyote did not back down – stared at my car and didn’t move – I had to swerve to miss him ( had to be male, a female would have leapt out of the way!).
The strangest was an insect not really an animal. It was so huge I could not believe it. It was about the size of two of my husbands hands. Maybe 6″ wide in the middle and 10″ long. It looked like a giant moth. Brown in color with circle markings on its wings. It was on the wood fence in my yard. This was about 12 years ago. I’ve never seen the like since then. Still not sure exactally what it was but I call it the Giant Moth.
The only strange animals I have come across are potato bugs.
Ok the weirdest I’ve ever seen up close is a hedgehog. So, it was from the local zoo, and you could pet them, but it was pretty cool. I didn’t think petting a hedgehog was possible.
weirdest creature evere was our friends albino gecko was seriously weird to see an all white gecko but theni looked up other strange animals and realize there are stranger
