When it rains, it pours

The limbo period between contract and release is a weird time. On the one hand, you have bunches to do, what with possible revisions and edits and cover art forms and blurb-writing and excerpt-picking and all, but on the other… It’s strangely void. You’re waiting and waiting, because the fact that you sold a book doesn’t feel quite real until people start buying it.
In our case, we had finished and submitted a bunch of stuff all at once earlier this year, and so we started receiving contract offers in clumps. Which is great, and really afforded us a lot of creativity this summer, because nothing motivates new work more than selling old work. LOL But there’s a lot of waiting involved, especially when those new releases are going to be with new publishers. In-house people can usually get on the schedule faster and really get things moving along.
In June, we contracted three series stories with Changeling Press and one short novel with Samhain Publishing. We’ve since contracted three stories in a second series and two more in the first one with Changeling, as well as a sequel novel and the first full-length book in a whole new series at Samhain. All but three of the shorter stories have already been written.
We’ve been BUSY.
Of all that, though, only two short stories at Changeling are currently out. We have more coming in October, of course, and November…and December…and–
Anyway. Now that we’ve worked on these things for the last few months and we’re starting to see release dates come and go, things are getting a little hectic. It’s like the calm before the storm has passed, and we’re scrambling to keep up. We’ll do our best, though, that I can promise.
If you get a chance, stop by this evening and join us on the Samhain CafĂ© email list. We’ll be hosting the list from 7 to 9 pm EST. Bree has a nifty scavenger hunt planned, and we’ll field a bunch of questions about what it’s like to write with another person.
