The Zombie Invasion

Release weekends always leave me dragging a little by the end, but Donna and I have gotten a lot done this week! Last week was a killer for me…tons of Coding Work for The Day Job (which I always seem to do at 11 pm for some reason) and a good bit of running around like mad while trying to organize things on the website.
We have certainly taken a dip with the writing recently, that’s for sure. We’ve been doing revisions, edits and polishing for the most part, with a side of writing. Our brains needed a bit of a recharge, though, so we did what we sometimes do when we’re strung out…write random stuff for fun that we never, ever plan to let see the light of day.
For example, somewhere locked on our harddrives you would find the answer to the question, “What would happen if the Southern Arcana universe was invaded by zombies?” For obvious reasons we’re probably not going to pitch that to our editor as an upcoming book plot, but it was an entertaining diversion and a chance to get to know our characters a little better.
What other questions have we asked on rainy days when our brains are tired and we don’t want to be held accountable for what we might write?
- Wild Wild West–cowboys and gunslingers!
- Everyone’s insane and in a mental institution.
- Everyone’s insane and NOT in a mental institution…though they should be.
- The College Years.
- Let’s solve crime!
Maybe this is how we know that we were meant to be writers. When we let ourselves take a vacation from writing, we celebrate by…writing. And that’s why we started it to begin with. We love characters and ideas and stories that work and even stories that don’t. We love what we do. Sometimes we hate the administrative work that comes along with doing it for a job, but that’s what makes it a job instead of a hobby for a rainy day.
So we’re junkies. A few days without writing and our hands start to shake. And if we don’t have the brainpower for something serious…well, there’s always the zombie invasion!
